Orange,Lavender and Red Onion Salad

My sister-in-law, Marina gave me this simple, colourful and versitile recipe when we had lunch together in the UK.

4 oranges
2 sweet red onions
1 tsp dried culinery lavender
2 Tblsp icing sugar
Peel and thinly slice the oranges and onions. Mix them together and spread over a heatproof plate.
Mix the lavender and icing sugar together. Scatter it over the oranges and onions.
Place under a hot grill to caramelise. A blow torch maybe used.
Serve warm or chilled.
Serve with a main course .
Serve as a salad on a bed of watercress and rocket.
<Variation: instead of slicing the oranges and onions chop them finely. Add the lavender and sugar but do not caramelise. Serve as a sambol with a currry.
It also tasted good enough to be served as a sweet.
Serves 4 people.
