From Russia with Love. DOUGH.

With the help of our tourist guide, Marie, we enjoyed the wonderful, splendid sights of St. Petersberg. She helped me find my way through some easy Russian recipes although she couldn’t understand why I would not use dairy or eggs! She had to look Vegan up in her dictionary.

11/4 cups of wheat flour
1 cup vegan margarine
3/4 cup of water or soya milk
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp sugar
Rub the margarine into the flour until it is like breadcrumbs. Mix in the salt and sugar. Make a hole in the centre and slowly mix in the fluid to form a dough. Knead into a pliable dough.

6 cups of wheat flour
1/14 cups of vegan margarine
2 cups of water or soya milk
2 tsp sugar
1 tsp salt
2 ozs 50 gms yeast
Mix the margarine into the flour until it is like breadcrumbs. Add the sugar, salt and yeast and mix. Carefully add the liquid until it forms a dough. Knead the dough until it is pliant. Cover and leave in a warm place for 20 minutes to allow the dough to rise.

These two types of dough can be used with a variety of filling ingredients to make different baked produce both savour and sweet.
