Stewed Apple

4 large cooking apples
4ozs 100g sugar to taste
4ozs 125g raisins
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground cloves
1 tsp nutmeg
1/2pt 200mls water
Peel, core and slice the apples. Place in a saucepan with enough water to cover and simmer for 5 minutes with the lid on, until apples are tender. Add sugar to taste and raisins cook for a further 2 minutes. Add all the spices and cook for a further 2 minutes.
Serve hot or cold with the frumenty or custard or cereals.
Serves 4 people.
